Catalyzing personal empowerment, societal transformation, and environmental sustainability

"In the long term, the economy and the environment are the same thing. If it's unenvironmental it is uneconomical. That is the rule of nature."

Fund Drive

"This is the most important work going on in the community." - Sharon Crozier, editor of the NW Sun newspaper

We want you, and 99 other individuals, organizations, and businesses, to support
Attraction Retreat
with $50 a month for one year.*
Here's why:

Attraction Retreat is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting personal and community development in harmony with the environment. Our systemic approach is unique and powerful. We've helped dozens of people and organizations in the past year. With your help, we will continue making this vital contribution to a positive, sustainable future by integrating the three main elements needed to heal the root causes of personal, societal, and environmental ills. These elements are:

  1. Individual human health, empowerment, and well-being
  2. Rebuilding and strengthening community bonds and involvement
  3. Ecological integrity, environmental restoration and sustainability

The combination of Attraction Retreat's facilities and services are a first for the Pacific Northwest. We are the only enterprise that systemically addresses the confluence of the relationships among the individual, the community and the environment. We're doing more than just putting out 'brush fires.' We have begun to catalyze the vitally needed positive, systemic change in our community and our world.

Our three branches are designed to work in concert to manifest our vision:

I. Ecotherapy, Life-Coaching, and Consulting Services-
for personal and organizational healing, transformation, and growth

We empower people to:

  • Improve relationships within the self (body, mind, heart, and spirit) as well as with others and the natural world
  • Increase an empowering sense of well-being and connectedness to a larger whole
  • Maximize personal and organizational potential
  • Gain wisdom and support from the natural environment
  • Increase communication and consensus within organizations

"While walking up and down the hills of Arroyo Park during my first counseling session, the tightening in my chest and the difficulty I've had breathing with any exertion simply vanished. My mood and attitude greatly improved, and I began to feel back in touch with the real me." - J. R., Bellingham medical professional

II. The EcoIntegrity Center of Bellingham (ECO Bell)-
a developing model of sustainable community

ECO Bell is a:

  • Community hub for Bellingham, where people from all walks of life meet to find kindred spirits, network, and share ideas and resources
  • Urban intentional community
  • Developing demonstration model of how to increase urban density while decreasing our ecological footprint and increasing quality of life indicators
  • Free venue for stimulating events that promote life-supportive values
  • Alternatives library
  • Activists' research center and citizens' think tank
  • Organic community garden and urban permaculture design center
  • Home of our growing Monday Nights at ECO Bell discussions
  • Place to enjoy good food, good music, good fun, and good fellowship!

We also strive to create living-wage jobs for people who share our values and principles and want to find right livelihood and live lives of integrity.

"This is the first place in the many years since the war that I have felt safe enough to express my true thoughts and feelings to others." - Vietnam War veteran, Monday Nights at ECO Bell participant

III. The Holistic Living Institute-
   community learning and information center

Our Holistic Living Institute offers integrated academic and experiential learning about personal, community, and environmental sustainability-because they are all connected. We enable people to gain the concepts and skills needed to live healthier, happier, more fulfilling, and sustainable lives. Our major offerings include:

  • Natural Systems Meditations
  • Processes for Social Change evening participatory seminars
  • Holistic Systems Design Components (week-long intensives in ecopsychology, urban permaculture, and processes for social change)
  • Holistic Living Introductory Workshop (one-day blend of our three major components)
  • Natural Consensus Workshop for organizations and activist groups

"You have found satisfying and effective ways to bring people together, foster healthy communication, and support people who are seeking ways and means to bring their lives into greater conformity with their consciences. You are an inspiring role model for the students, and I want you to know how exciting it is to me personally to know that you are out there, actively working to bring people together to re-vision and transform our community." - Gary Bornzin, Faculty, Fairhaven College

How Your Donation Will Help:

The funding streams from AR's three major branches are slowly but surely developing into sustainable sources of income. In the meantime, however, the funds generated by this drive will allow us to 1) continue helping people and our community toward natural health and sustainability, 2) enable us to meet the expenses of maintaining our facilities, and 3) present and sponsor more events and programs throughout the community as we become increasingly self-sustaining from our income streams. Now that we have received our 501(c)(3) recognition of exempt status letter from the IRS, a prerequisite for submitting grant proposals, we are also in the process of applying for grants for our many projects-but this, too, takes time.

Dream with us of a radically different world: more in balance with natural systems, more just, more equitable, less violent, and healthier in mind, body, and spirit--both for individuals and for the community. Nurture this dream, and directly benefit yourself, by supporting Attraction Retreat through our Holistic Living Network. Contribute $50 or more a month with automatic payments. Or make a one time contribution of any amount, volunteer your time, or use your 4th Corner Exchange time dollars. And please join us in our offerings. You will not only help create but also become the change you want to see in the world.

   With heartfelt appreciation,

   Dave Ewoldt
   Executive Director, Attraction Retreat

   Allison Weeks-Ewoldt
